ADHD Treatment & Support

ADHD Treatment & Ongoing Care

Receiving an ADHD diagnosis can help you understand why you experience certain difficulties, but it is often the beginning of working out what support or treatment is right for you.

There is no single treatment plan for ADHD. Some people choose medication, while others benefit from information, practical strategies, reasonable adjustments, coaching or psychological approaches. For some people, a combination works best.

At Juno Clinic, ongoing ADHD care is based on your individual needs. Treatment decisions are made with you and there is no expectation that receiving an ADHD diagnosis means that you have to take medication.

Which service do I need?

The appointment or service you need will depend on where you are in your ADHD treatment journey.

01

Routine Outpatient Appointment

For existing Juno Clinic patients who require their routine ADHD medication review and monitoring. Patients receiving ADHD medication should attend an in-person outpatient review every six months.

Existing patients • Routine monitoring
02

Extended Outpatient Appointment

For new patients transferring their ADHD medication care to Juno Clinic who require a clinical and cardiovascular review before prescribing, and existing patients whose required six-monthly outpatient review has become overdue.

New transfers • Overdue reviews
03

Post-diagnosis Support

Understanding ADHD and how it affects you can be an important part of moving forward after diagnosis. Post-diagnosis support provides an opportunity to learn more about ADHD and consider practical ways of managing difficulties in everyday life.

Understanding • Support • Strategies
04

Diagnosed by another provider?

If your ADHD diagnosis was made elsewhere, we will need to review your diagnostic report and relevant supporting information before deciding whether Juno Clinic can take over your ADHD treatment and prescribing.

ADHD Medication

Considering medication?

Medication is one of the treatment options for ADHD. Before medication is commenced, we need to make sure that treatment is clinically appropriate and can be prescribed safely.

This includes considering your medical and mental health history, current medication and completing the appropriate physical health and cardiovascular assessment.

01
Clinical review We consider your diagnosis, health, current medication and individual treatment needs.
02
Titration If medication is appropriate, treatment is carefully adjusted while monitoring benefit, side effects and physical health.
03
Ongoing monitoring Once established, your medication continues to be reviewed to make sure treatment remains effective, appropriate and safe.

Already diagnosed somewhere else?

You do not necessarily need to repeat your ADHD assessment in order to receive treatment from Juno Clinic.

We will first need to review your diagnostic report and relevant supporting information. This allows us to consider whether there is sufficient clinical evidence for us to accept the diagnosis and safely take over your treatment.

If we can accept your diagnosis

New patients wishing to commence or transfer ADHD medication treatment will require an Extended Outpatient Appointment.

This provides additional time for our own clinical review and the physical health and cardiovascular assessment required before Juno Clinic commences prescribing.

Ongoing medication reviews

ADHD medication requires ongoing clinical and physical health monitoring. Reviews allow us to consider how your medication is working, any side effects or difficulties and whether your treatment remains appropriate.

We will also complete the physical health monitoring required for safe prescribing and discuss any changes that may be needed.

Six-monthly in-person review: Patients receiving ADHD medication through Juno Clinic should attend an in-person outpatient appointment every six months, alongside any additional monitoring or appointments that are clinically required. If this appointment is missed or becomes overdue, an Extended Outpatient Appointment may be required before prescribing can continue.

ADHD treatment isn't only about medication

Understanding your diagnosis, recognising your individual strengths and difficulties, developing practical strategies and considering appropriate adjustments at home, work or education can all form part of moving forward after diagnosis.
